Educational Interactive

IGNITION has worked at the University of Bristol on a number of design projects.  The Centre for Public Engagement focuses on involving as many people as possible in the University's activities including public events, courses, research and teaching; this helps to improve the impact of the University ensuring that people locally, nationally and internationally get the most from the University.

Project

Bristol Festival of Nature: The University of Bristol is a key partner in the Bristol Festival of Nature, the largest annual event for the UK public to enjoy and explore the natural world. Two University exhibition tents presented a range of research, from biological sciences - understanding global ecosystems, to electrical engineering, turbines and solar-power. The tents were housed in two different locations within the 16,000m2 Festival site.

Objective

The University presented a brief for a publication to encourage visits to both tents and help people link the different areas of research.

Results

IGNITION designed a "passport" to enable the public to collect stamps from around the various University exhibits. We worked with the University to make the passport attractive and easy-to-use; it had a simple but impactful design. We also used slightly modified images from the two front covers as external banners for each tent, to unify the University branding at the Festival.

The University also required a new exhibit for one of the tents, which IGNITION designed and built.  The exhibit needed to present the University's research around the Bristol Dinosaur in a way that gave the public a feeling for excavating bones and piecing together a real skeleton. IGNITION produced a reusable, smart and compact unit that could be assembled in seconds to show the life-size dinosaur skeleton. The end result was hugely popular throughout the event.
